MOOT COURT COMPETITIONS
National Moot Court Competition
Since 2007, ELSA Finland has organized the National Moot Court Competition every year. Themes and legal subjects are different every year. Cases primarily concern Finnish law and legislation. Participants take part in the competition in teams that are comprised of 2-4 persons. The competition is held in autumn and the participants earn academic credit from the Faculty of Law. International Moot Court Competition
ELSA International organizes the ELSA Moot Court Competition every year which is a simulated hearing of the World Trade Organization dispute settlement system. The purpose of the competition is to enable law students to deepen their understanding of law and put their new skills into practice in an international environment. There are regional rounds worldwide and the best 20 teams will be qualified to participate in the Final Oral Round held at the WTO Headquarters in Geneva. The competition is open to all law students worldwide.
Also, ELSA International organizes a Europe-wide Moot Court Competition on the European Convention on Human Rights in co-operation with the Council of Europe to provide law students with practical experience on the field. The competition simulates the procedure of complaints to the European Court of Human Rights and the teams will examine a fictive case and draft written submissions for each party. The competition is open to all law students in ELSA Member Countries as well as Council of Europe Member Countries.
More information about International Moot Court Competitions is available on ELSA International’s website.
ELSA’s Essay Competitions prepare the participants for the specialized forms of written communication that are required within the legal profession. They are therefore an excellent opportunity to show your legal writing skills to potential employers. Competitions are virtually always held in co-operation with a law firm or institution and the co-operation partners also assess the participants’ essays.
